With Meade Oxygen-III (O-III) Nebular Filter, you can more easily observe diffuse emissions and planetary nebulae in urban areas. In fact, observations of these nebulae in a city environment with the O-III filter can yield more image contrast than observations of the same objects in a dark-sky setting without the filter.

Recent advancements allow the O-III filter to extract more than 80% of the light emanating from the two oxygen-III spectral lines at 496 and 501 nm. You get dramatically greater detail when observing objects such as the Omega (Swan) Nebula (M17) in Sagittarius, the Orion Nebula (M42) in Orion, and the Helix Nebula (M16) in Serpens. The Nebular Filter benefits from a 60-layer interference coating technology which isolates the desirable O-III lines while attenuating the other spectral lines to nearly zero.

Note: The O-III Filter complements, rather than replaces, other Meade nebular filters. For example, the Broadband Filter enhances the performance of a much wider range of nebular objects; the O-III Filter improves contrast and visible detail on fewer objects, but in these more limited cases it does so to the most dramatic level possible. The effectiveness of each filter depends on the physical characteristics of the specific nebula being observed.
